Special dates

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

We all have special dates on the calendar that we celebrate.

For my wife and I, the 1st of December is a big day. Every year we make something special of the 1st of December. It is our first-kiss anniversary. Why is it such an important day? Well, if it wasn’t for that first kiss, nothing else would have happened. So by celebrating the day, we remind ourselves of important things in our lives.

25th of December around the world is celebrated in memory of the birth of Christ. Annually, billions of people are reminded of one of the greatest events in history, the birth of Christ.

Some tell me it is pagan. Others remind me, rightly so, that Jesus was not born on the 25th of December. Still others say, it is a day in the year when the economy is saved by our spending.

Some churches and preachers want to stop Christmas altogether. For me and my family it is an annual reminder of the birth of Jesus. We celebrate the day in church with friends and family. Yes, for more than 20 years Krugersdorp has its biggest cake (for 1 000 people plus). On the cake are these words, “Happy birthday, Jesus”.

I would like to wish all our citizen of this great city, Mogale a blessed and happy Christ-mas. God bless our town.
