Perceptions

Our perceptions, not our reality, will differ according to how we look at life.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

People often ask where do I get all my ideas for sermons and articles. The religious answer is, “from God”. The truth is that God often speaks through ordinary things to give us a spiritual lesson. The other day I was watching cartoons with my grandson when a profound thought in the story hit me. An ant was shown a hamburger. The ant was asked, “Is it a big hamburger?” The ant answered, “A very big hamburger”. Then the same hamburger was shown to an elephant.

“Is it a big hamburger?” The elephant replied, “No, it is a tiny hamburger”.

If you and I look at the challenges we face in life it is easy to think, “It is a big challenge”. But if I take the same challenge and show it to God, he will surely say, “No problem”.

Our perceptions, not our reality, will differ according to how we look at life.

What mountain, obstacle, giant are you facing? Is it overwhelming, frightening? Don’t worry, take that challenge and put it next to God. He is all powerful. Your problem looks small in comparison to his power. At work, at home and in life we all face challenges. It is life. Not one of us has never felt like quitting, running or hiding. It is normal.

But no matter what your challenge is, remember there is a giant in each of us. Resistance training is the norm in fitness and strength building. Don’t perceive every resistance as a bad thing. The bigger you grow, the smaller the hamburger will look. It is all about perceptions.
