• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
Returning from a week’s holiday recently, someone said, “Welcome to the real world”. Yes, this is the real world, Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. Besides a few long weekends and a few short breaks, our lives is work. Work is our real world.
Religious, agnostic or atheist, we all have the same challenges.
Even Jesus lived in our real world. Schedules, goals and the most challenging of all, co-workers. People can complicate our lives.
Curveballs, back-stabbing, alliances, it is almost like a reality show.
How do you do it? How do you survive? Here is what gets me through my real world. Breaks. A few minutes alone, an hour of silence or a day doing something I love.
Life isn’t a rose garden. Life isn’t a party. It is full of giants. But you manage because you have to. One of my role models is Jesus Christ. As a role model, he lived in our real world, facing opposition, criticism and even cruel persecution. How did he do it? Often he went to quiet, lonely places and caught his breath. Got his ducks in a row and faced his world.
Your world may be hell today, but you can beat the devil with a simple trick of the trade. Catch your breath and fight your battle.
