As long as you know who holds the future

Truth be told, our lives are far from secure.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

I am not a financial expert but I have learnt that financial markets don’t like uncertainty.

Investors want a stable, secure environment that decreases the risk on their investment. If the markets are volatile, people don’t invest. You may not be an investor but you also need certainty to be happy. In your marriage, in your occupation, in your security, you and I function better if we feel secure.

But truth be told, our lives are far from secure. Marriages end in divorce daily. Jobs are lost every month. Today millions of South Africans are unemployed. Millions will face today with no security.

With Covid as an extra threat, we don’t even know if we have a future. Many people I know have had a near-death experience, some have lost family and friends through Covid. Where is God in all of this?

Many people ask if Covid comes from God or the devil. Some believe that it was created in a lab for some crazy sinister plot to kill us all.

I don’t have the answers, but I know God still has a card up his sleeve. Many people who have not prayed for years now quietly whisper an SOS.

God does not always calm the storm, but he can calm your heart in the storm. You don’t have to know what the future holds as long as you know who holds the future.
