• Lucky Sele, Mogale City ANC caucus writes:
The 23rd of November 2021 marked the beginning of the 2021–2026 term of council in the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM).
This event witnessed the election of council office bearers which are the Speaker of Council, the Executive Mayor and the Single Council Whip. The ANC contested all three positions against the candidates presented by the DA, having the DA elected through clientelism, trade-off agreements with other political parties.
The ANC wishes to applaud its deployees in Council for demonstrating high morals with courage, resilience and discipline against the witch-hunt on the ANC across the Gauteng province and the country at large by opposition, to remove the ANC out of governing by whatever means necessary.
The MCLM ANC caucus welcomes the democratic outcome of the inaugural council seating with reservations that the relationship of convenience displayed in Council will be at the expense of the majority of Mogale City residents.
The truth of the matter is that there is no sound and principled coalition agreement between parties that voted together on Tuesday to put the residents first.
The ANC caucus in consultation with the ANC leadership in the Region will make an assessment on how to approach this DA route to power by whatever means necessary, through a monetary collusion informed by promises and scramble for positions, which is a threat to service delivery and a stable municipality when the one night stand relationship of convenience cease to exist and promises are not lived up to by the incumbent DA minority leadership.
The DA shockingly forwarded Tyrone Gray for the position of Executive Mayor, noting that the councillor was also put forth as a Ward 9 candidate councillor for the November 1st Local Government Elections of which he lost dismally to the ANC.
This should serve as a clear indication that the community of Mogale City rejected the DA and their candidate in the City. It is upon the ANC to work hard and reconnect with the community it serves and to strengthen multi-party relations in Council.
The ANC remains the political organisation preferred by the majority residents of Mogale City, with 27 ward councillors elected from 39 Wards under the ANC banner.
Our focus has been and will remain to improve the levels of service delivery and to serve our communities better. The democratically elected ward councillors remain the go-to people to escalate your council issues and service delivery matters.
