LETTER: Mirrors don’t lie but …

‘Most of the people who judge us don’t even know us. They, like the mirror, focus on the exterior, the least important of who you are’ – local pastor.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

Mirrors don’t lie but the truth is, mirrors don’t show the whole story.

Looking in a mirror, you see what is on the outside but looking into the eyes, you can look into the soul. It is amazing that what other people see and say influence how we see ourselves.

If you tell a beautiful girl enough times that she is ugly, she will see herself as revolting. No matter how thin you are, if you see yourself as fat, the mirror will show only kilograms.

Most of the people who judge us don’t even know us. They, like the mirror, focus on the exterior, the least important of who you are.

Next time you look at someone who is different from you, stop. You are not the judge, jury and executioner. You may know what the person has done, but you may have no idea what they have come through.

The only one who knows you inside out and has the right to judge you, looks at you and loves you. God hates sin but he loves sinners.

P.S. What amazes me most is that God knows me better than anyone else, flaws and all. And still, he loves me and he loves you. Isn’t that special?
