• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
A really important principle that teachers, public speakers and ministers should never forget is this, the brain can only take in what the butt can endure.
People cannot concentrate for more than a few minutes at a time.
The average brain is under so much pressure. From the moment you wake up until you fall asleep you are bombarded with information. Information, opinions, hundreds of voices filling your mind with things to process and store.
I often feel like jumping ship, throwing in the towel and running away. But I am not a victim, I am, like you, in control.
You can turn off the radio in the car. You can have some evenings without the TV. You and I can make time to be alone, to be quiet and to be inactive. For how long, you may ask? As long as you need. A walk, a cycle, a drive, a cup of coffee by yourself. Much of the information we receive is useless.
Here is a tip that I am trying. Switch off your cellphone for 60 minutes. No calls, no Facebook, 60 minutes, you won’t die. Maybe then we will appreciate things that really matter – family, friends and faith in God. Amen
