LETTER: Bearing fruit – Yes, it is up to you

‘God has given everyone of us talents, skills, gifts that, if given a chance, can change the world we live in.’ – local pastor.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

A few months ago, I gave out hundreds of small packets with a variety of seeds to all the people at our morning service. Tomato seeds, chilli and bean mixed in each packet. I challenged each person to plant and care for the seeds.

I knew that many would do nothing. It is just too much effort. But those who accepted the challenge have had so much fun watching what they sowed actively growing. Soon they will eat the fruit of their efforts.

I often think about all the things sown into our lives that never bare fruit, because no effort was put into it.

God has given everyone of us talents, skills, gifts that, if given a chance, can change the world we live in.

You don’t have to be exceptional in any way to make a difference. Average, ordinary is good enough to be exceptional if germinated.

I wonder what is inside of you that you are not even aware of. I cannot change the world, but maybe I can help someone change their world just by being kind. It is not what is in you that is so important, it is what you do with it. Yes, it is up to you.
