#FlashbackFriday: A trip down memory lane to Krugersdorp in the 80s

Life was cheaper, styles were bolder, and the community was buzzing with activity. What do you remember from 1987?

Let’s take a trip back in time … to 1987.

Thirty-eight years ago, the world looked a lot different in many ways, from fashion to hairstyles, and we can’t forget the ‘low’ prices of everyday items (wow … if only the prices stayed the same, the style… might be a different story).

In the Krugersdorp News dated August 21, 1987, we saw Rizana Nel in her swimsuit ready to welcome spring. Mike’s Kitchen had incredible prices on food. Prawns for R9.95? We wish!

The Krugersdorp Lions Club celebrated their 25th anniversary.

The Krugersdorp Lions Club celebrated their 25th anniversary (so they have been around a really long time). The Spur had crazy prices on food and live shows on Sundays. There was a fashion parade that involved 12 schools from the West Rand, and Isabell van Vuuren showed the style of that year. Where is she now?

The style of that year.

Turns out a full set of furniture was much cheaper back in the day. With a couch set only costing R699.90 and not your whole salary, plus a kidney.

A whole set for this price? Yes please!
