Local golfer through to nationals
Anton won an all-expenses-paid trip to the national final and moves one step closer to securing a position in team South Africa.
Avid amateur golfer Anton van Dyk from Krugersdorp proved he had the drive to win and proudly raised his trophy after securing a third place in the 6-10 flighting division at the Gauteng Regional Elimination in the 19th Amateur World Golfers Championship.
Anton, who won an all-expenses-paid trip to the national final and moves one step closer to securing a position in team South Africa, said, “What a fantastic experience for amateur golfers. I will be putting in lots of practice for the national final in September.
“Golfers who qualify for team South Africa receive an all-expenses-paid, unforgettable six-day experience of competing like a ‘pro’ golfer on tour. If you missed the first Gauteng regional elimination, there is still a chance to enter the second event at Randpark Golf Club on 26 July.
“The championship is open to any amateur golfer over the age of 16 with an official handicap, and entries can be done online at www.wgesa.co.za,” says Craig Clay-Smith, spokesperson for World Golf Events South Africa, the SA event owners and organisers.
World Golfers Championship was founded by the late Sven Tumba and supported by the late Severiano Ballesteros.
Today the dream lives on through the patronage of world-class golfers Arnold Palmer and Annika Sorenstam, as well as thousands of amateur golfers worldwide who each year participate in this world-acclaimed and largest amateur golfing event.
