Entries open for stunning new Berge en Dale

By attracting almost 4 000 cyclists, the event has outgrown the capacity of Silverstar Casino.

The Optimum Berge en Dale Classic, scheduled for Saturday 8 February has a stunning new venue, and entries are open for this popular Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour seeding event.

The West Rand based event is moving to the state-of-the-art Cradlestone Shopping Mall on the R28, only a kilometre down the road from the Silverstar Casino where it used to start and finish.

By attracting almost 4 000 cyclists, the event has outgrown the capacity of Silverstar Casino.

The new mall, which opened on 20 November, gave the organisers the option of moving, however the move does not change the race route. The event still starts with the climb up Hillsnax, but the riders will set off from the Pinehaven traffic crossing towards Muldersdrif in front of the new mall.

The early-morning start means bunches can cross Pinehaven and go up towards Hillsnax without disrupting traffic.

More good news is that they won’t have to ride their bikes all the way to Silverstar after crossing the finish line from Muldersdrif.

To reach the new finish, riders will cross the line and enter the mall’s parking area a few hundred metres farther.

On-line entries for the event are open on www.cycleevents.co.za or call the race office on 076 621 1807 or send an email to eventsupport@asgworld.co.za.
