Make a career out of golf

An opportunity to become the next Tiger Woods.

From February this year Krugersdorp Golf Club will be home to a brand new golfing academy.

According to founder Jan Nel the academy, which is the first of its kind on the West Rand, will be a platform for young golfers to develop their skill eventually to make a career out of the sport.

Jan believes that the West Rand has an abundance of golfing talent but very few of the players have the opportunity to develop their skills to their full potential.

“The academy is a place where players from the age of 14 not only can develop their game but also receive the necessary exposure to turn professional,” he says.

Professional Golfers Training Academy (PGTA) offers three different programmes that will run over the course of a year.

“Golfers have the option of one of the three programmes and will graduate from the programme at the end the year,” explains Jan.

The three programmes are:

• A tour performance elite programme (five days a week)

• A golf preparation programme (three days a week)

• A higher education elite programme (five days a week)

The higher education elite programme allows players to be enrolled as full-time golfers at the academy while obtaining a tertiary qualification part time.

“We work together with an accredited academic programme that offers various tertiary courses,” explains co-founder Hein Homann.

“It can be compared to a correspondence course integrated with the golfing academy.”

Founders Jan and Hein, who are both qualified professional golfers, would be at the head of all training throughout the course.

Since the launch of the academy a large number of golfers have enrolled at PGTA and space is limited.
