Warrior Race — muddy, merciless and tough
The toughest obstacle course racing event in South Africa hosted in Muldersdrift.
Since its inception in February 2013 the immensely popular obstacle course racing phenomenon – the Warrior Race – crowned 40 000 participants over eight events that span four provinces.
The meteoric rise of obstacle racing or otherwise known as mud-and-beer events has seen the Warrior Race at the forefront of that growth with its larger-than-life obstacles and innovative courses to challenge South Africans.
The reason the Warrior Race is so popular is that anyone can participate.
All you need is a pair of old running shoes and a great sense of adventure. What makes obstacle racing unique is that it is one of only a few opportunities for athletes from different sporting codes such as cycling, trail running, road running, cross-fit, karate, judo, rugby, soccer and hockey to compete against each other on a level playing field.
On 1 and 2 February Hero Adventure Park at Heia Safari Ranch in Muldersdrift together with Jeep hosted its Warrior Race.
The team from Warrior pulled out all the stops with new exciting obstacles and an amazing route for the first Warrior Race of 2014.
There were four events on offer over the two days:
Warrior Brats: 1km with eight obstacles
Warrior Rookie: 5km with 15 obstacles
Warrior Commando: 10km with 20 obstacles
Warrior Black Opps: 16 km with 30 obstacles
Those who completed the course could call themselves warriors after being challenged by world-class obstacles that involved jumping over burning fires, crawling through mud under a wire fence, battling up slippery slopes, running or swimming across water obstacles and facing a few variations of rope obstacles.
