Local bowling club triumphs at championship

Krugersdorp Sables Club kicked dust in the eyes of their Roodepoort opponents.

Krugersdorp’s Sable Bowling players were the ones to beat at this year’s Sables Men’s and Ladies’ Singles Championships with strong competition from Roodepoort at the semifinals and finals.

The championships on 13 April had Krugersdorp, Leases and Discovery Sable clubs battling it out for the top spot.

“As all the participating players arrived on Sunday morning, it was evident that we were in for some very exciting bowls,” says Graeme Morton from the Sables Bowling Association.

“It was fantastic to see a few new faces in the last eight of this year’s open championships, as these bowlers had played extremely well to get through the knock-out section and thoroughly deserved their places in the final rounds,” he says.

Final results are as follows:

Senior Men

Winner – Alan Lyall (Krugersdorp Bowling Club)

Runner-up – Terry Taylor (Leases Bowling Club)

Open Men

Winner – Theuns Fraser (Leases Bowling Club)

Runner-up – Morné du Plessis (Krugersdorp Bowling Club)

Senior and Open Ladies Combined

Winner – Rika Lynn (Discovery Bowling Club)

Runner-up – Marie Nel (Leases Bowling Club)

The prizegiving followed with the President of Sables Bowls Dave Parker, congratulating all the players and thanking Discovery Bowling Club for hosting and sponsoring the event.
