Khosa Cricket rakes in Gauteng awards
Caxton's Khoza Cricketers received numerous accolades at this year's Gauteng Cricket awards.
At the annual Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) awards dinner held at the Wanderers Stadium on 15 May, Caxton Khosa Cricket Club received a total of 11 awards for the 2013/14 cricket season.
At the prestigious event, Khosa scooped up the following awards:
• Gauteng Cricket Board Club of the Year
• Clubs Club of the Year
• Premier League “B” 50 over league winners
• Premier League “B” league winners
• SA 1 League winners
• SA 2 League winners
• SU 2 League winners
• T20 League Champions
• Zander van der Merwe won Bowler of the Season (Premier B section)
• Sonnyboy Letshele won Batsman of the Season (Premier B section)
• Sonnyboy Letshele won Player of the Season (Premier B section)
Thabeng Maroe, GCB President, specially commended Caxton Khosa for their hard work and dedication during the season.
The exceptional results of the club can be attributed to the dedication and commitment of their overseas coach and former Irish international player André Botha, who went a long way in motivating and coaching the players, both on and off the field.
The club also held its season-end dinner at the club. Clive Eksteen, former Gauteng and SA cricketer was guest speaker and also presented awards for the following:
• Zander van der Merwe for Player of Year
• Sydwell Ndlovo for Batsman of the Year
• Zander van der Merwe for Bowler of Year
• Quin Rankin for Most Improved Bowler of the Year
• Travis Lindeque for Most Improved Player of the Year
• Bertu Laas for Fielder of the Year
• Jeandre Ludick for Most Promising Cricketer of the Year
• Hein Botes / Markus Ackerman for Young Cricketers of the Year
• Premier League side for Team of the Year
• Mike Tucker won the novelty award “To a great Cricketer”
• André Botha won the Chairman’s Award
Doug Poole, Chairman of Caxton Khosa Cricket congratulated all the winners and also mentioned that the club had had its most successful season ever. Apart from winning six leagues, the club’s other teams all finished second in their respective leagues.
