Liebenberg prepares for war with Russian
Ryno the Lion Liebenberg wil face a tough Russian boxer in an upcoming tournament.
In a dramatic twist, Golden Gloves boxing promoters announced that they have shelved the Super Six Clash for Cash tournament recently reported on by the news.
Local boxing sensation Ryno Liebenberg was scheduled to fight for a share of R5 million in the widely reported tournament
Instead, the promoter recently announced that it will go ahead with an entirely new event – Silver Salvo – with Krugersdorp’s unbeaten Liebenberg defending his silver light-heavyweight championship title against Russian Denis Grachev at Emperors Palace on 9 August.
Ironically, the pair were due to fight in the first round of the Super Six.
According to a statement by Golden Gloves the encouraging aspect of the new top-liner is that Liebenberg versus Grachev has the potential of a war.
Grachev has been in with top names, with former world champions Lucian Bute and Zsolt Erdei among them, and will be desperate to win given that he most recently lost by a points decision against Isaac Chilemba.
