Netball keeps girls out of mischief

It was initiated to keep young girls off the streets and from falling pregnant.

Three teams from Kagiso recently participated in the Netball Kagiso tournament.

The tournament, which was held at the John Martin Catholic School, was held to keep young girls from getting into trouble like falling pregnant, says Malinga Nkele, a founding member of the Fast Track Netball Academy.

“About 30 girls were playing in the tournament and it seemed that they enjoyed themselves,” he says.

“We needed to create something to keep them busy and active. We can’t have girls falling pregnant while they are still at school and have their entire life ahead of them.”

Coach Nnana Teme says the teams are competing against each other as a way to train them for other netball competitions.

“I have been training the girls for over eight months. They are all smiles when they come to practice and when playing against other teams.”

The other teams that participated were Hurricanes and Ladies of Peace.
