Ryno in top shape for biggest fight of his life

He believes that he is ready for the fight that could mean the end of his day job.

Krugersdorp’s Ryno Liebenberg put on a top class performance recently at the HotBox gym open day ahead of the Chesa Nyama “Silver Salvo” tournament to take place at Emperors Palace.

Liebenberg will face Denis Grachev in a light-heavyweight clash.

According to Golden Gloves boxing promoters, there was a large turnout of fighters, fans and media on the day as Liebenberg went through his paces.

Boxers and former boxers in attendance included Hekkie Budler, Alfonso Tissen, Brian Mitchell, Joey Stiglingh and Anton Gilmore.

Liebenberg proved that he is in good shape for the fight that in financial terms could mean the end of his day job.

“I’m fitter than I’ve ever been. My endurance is right up there; I can go 12 rounds easily without breaking a sweat. My preparation has been very good. I haven’t been sick, and that’s so important. It’s the risk you run when you jog in the cold, but I’ve had no issues. My preparation has been amazing,” he says.

Despite some good-natured baiting via twitter, Liebenberg respects what Grachev brings to the fight. In fact, he largely sees a mirror image of his own fighting style.

“He’s a come-forward guy. Not the most technical or the fastest, but he can bang. We’re both fit and strong and both of us can punch. I believe I’m sharper. When he punches, he opens up. That’s when he can be hit,” says Liebenberg.

“This fight is the key to my future – I have no plan on losing. It won’t happen,” he concludes.
