Mini cricket equals massive fun

Friendly cricket at Caxton Khosa Club promotes sportsmanship and keeps children out of malls.

It was an evening filled with fun and friendly sportsmanship as young aspiring cricketers took to the field.

As the Caxton Khosa Mini Cricket season approaches its end, parents and players met up for a night of good old fashion cricket.

Parents sat on picnic blankets all around the field as the under 5 and 7’s played a good round of cricket on 26 February.

The Caxton Khosa Cricket teams are made up of players from all around Krugersdorp and attracts players as far as Magaliesburg, Pecanwood Estate, Randfontein and Northcliff.

They then compete against other clubs from all around Gauteng which falls under the Gauteng Cricket Board’s (GCB) mini division.

On Saturdays these young boys got together at the club where they learn and practice.

Although there is no score kept in theses games, Khosa Junior Cricket chairperson, Anne Corden believes that children belong on the sports fields.

“I believe every child on a sport field is a child out of a mall,” is one of her most famous quotes.

What is most important about the club is that every child, no matter their ability, is given a fair chance to bat and bowl at every match.

This gives them the opportunity to get a feel for the game and develop skills.

The junior cricket season is at the verge of breaking for the winter to make way for the junior hockey season and will kick off again in September.
