Dojo presents three SA champs

Nine of the club's members won medals at the championship.

A local karate club has once again distinguished itself at the International Shorei Martial Arts Goju Ryu South African Karate Championship, held on 7 May.

Nine karatekas from the West Rand Goju Ryu Karate Club in West Village, under Sensei David Krause’s leadership, came home with medals after competing in the championships that took place at the University of the Witwatersrand. Three of the students, Sylvano Hyman, Chanell Greeff and Marcus Krause, became South African Goju Ryo Champions and received gold medals in their individual divisions.

Sensei Krause said the club has reached important milestones with the students.

“Our students are achievers through all the age categories. We have consistently shown our performance throughout this year,” he said.

The Championship saw 240 entrants from all provinces who competed in individual and unison kata and kumite.
