Primal hosts first arm-wrestling competition

The West Rand’s first arm-wrestling club will soon be hosting its first ever competition at Cedar Lodge.

Linus Cornelius and his wife Janice decided to start the West Rand’s first arm-wrestling club, which they called Primal Arm-wrestling, after having to travel to the East Rand to train every weekend for the past two years.

“I wanted to promote the sport and felt that being at the helm of my own club and being available to more people would assist in that,” Linus said.

The Gauntlet competition, which is a completely new competition format in South Africa, is a double elimination, best out of three challenge. The main event is the King of the Table, in which a competitor stays at the table and wrestles until he or she is defeated.

Linus is excited about the event, and said, “We are very excited and have a few sponsors on board. We would like the sport to be promoted and to get the community involved. It is going to be a fun-filled family day with a jumping castle for the kiddies and some good arm-wrestling. We’re even having a competition to try to take an arm-wrestling title belt from its current owner.”

The event will run from 9am on 30 July in the Captain Beer Garden at Cedar Lodge.
