Western Riding academy wings it

Riders had a chance to showcase their skills at the Western riding academy.

All riders rode to the west when the Western Riding Academy hosted its Wing It winter show in Sterkfontein.

Adhering to the theme to come dressed as anything beginning with the letter W, or with wings, riders showcased their skills and received feedback from reputable judges. Both young and old participated in the event with no limit to the characters. Some children came dressed as Woody from the Toy Story movie, and as warriors, while instructors came in waitress and wish fairy costumes.

Some of the classes contested on the day were Western pleasure, Western dressage, Trail, Horsemanship and reining. Non-riders enjoyed an In-hand trail class, during which the horses are carefully led through an obstacle course.

The Doughnuts race class was a fun way to round off the day, with participants completing a course on foot that ended with a doughnut-eating spectacle – the fastest eater being declared the winner.

The next Wing It show will be on Sunday, 4 September.
