Harlequins does it again
There is incredible young rugby talent here in Krugersdorp.
The Harlequins Youth Rugby Club was again well represented at the Inter Provincial Tournament (IPT) for youth rugby clubs, hosted this year by the Valke Rugby Union in Kempton Park.
This annual event, held during the October school holidays, provides selected U/13 to U/18 club rugby players from the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU), Blue Bulls Rugby Union, KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union and the Valke Rugby Union the opportunity to test their mettle in a showcase of fierce competition and camaraderie.
Known as the Rooibokke, the GLRU contingent achieved mixed results. The U/16 team featuring Sean Rabé and Ruan van Zyl placed fourth overall, whereas the U/14 team featuring JP Swanepoel placed third overall, earning him a bronze medal. The U/15 team featuring Botshelo Tilo and Lesedi Taele placed second overall, earning them silver medals.
Harlequin’s manager of youth rugby, Schalk Rabé said, “There is incredible young rugby talent here in Krugersdorp, and we are proud to enable these youngsters to grow and demonstrate their abilities on the provincial level the IPT provides”.
The next IPT will be hosted by the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, and promises to yet again inspire young players to achieve glory on provincial club rugby level.
