BMX riders show their skills at local park
“It was great to see the park alive with action.”
There was lots of excitement at the sixth leg of the Gauteng Regional BMX racing series on Sunday, 25 June.
The series, which took place at X-Stream Bike and Adventure Park, in the Lion and Rhino Nature Reserve, was graced by beautiful weather, and attended by hundreds of spectators.

More than 50 riders participated on the world class track and both novices and experts enjoyed a smooth day of racing.
According to Chris van der Merwe, manager of the track, some excellent skills were displayed. He also said he was glad that BMX is still a growing sport in South Africa.
“It was great to see the park alive with action. BMX racers were on the big tracks, while the less proficient children who are still learning rode on the beginner and pump tracks.”
The results of the races will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Matthew Fulton (6), Astrid van der Merwe (7), Sam Hare (9) and Keith Smith (38) will be racing in the National Age-group series to be held at Queensburgh BMX Club in Kwazulu-Natal from 7–9 July.
