Father and daughter team gearing up for the big Fish

Father and daughter make a mean team.

Florida Lake Canoe Club hosted the Gauteng Canoe Union Mixed Doubles Championships on the Klip River between Daleside and Meyerton recently.

Krugersdorpers Craig Johnston and his daughter Jade enjoyed participating in the 2017 Mixed Doubles Championships category, finishing the 30km race in a time of two hours and 22 minutes. Craig is an experienced river race paddler and is introducing his daughter to the exciting, adrenalin-rushing sport, as they prepare for the guaranteed white water expected at the Hansa Fish River Marathon which takes place in Cradock, in October.

The mixed doubles category, which will be just one of the racing categories at the World Marathon Championships next month in Pietermaritzburg, is a male and female combination in a K2 (double) kayak.Canoe Concepts (a supplier of equipment for canoeing/ kayaking, based in Albertskroon near Emmarentia Dam) is the annual sponsor of the Gauteng’s Mixed Doubles Championship race where the top Gauteng Mixed Doubles Partnerships are recognised.

The News would like to wish Graig and Jade good luck with the marathon in October.
