Medals from London for Karateka
Sensei Fanie Du Plessis who trains these karate fundy's is the new World Funakoshi champion.
The Traditional Karate Centre (TKC) in Noordheuwel sent a qualifying team to the World Funakoshi Karate Championships held in London recently and they brought four medals home.
The competition included 700 competitors from 18 different countries and the team still managed to win two bronze, one silver and one gold medal, despite the tough competition.

Sonja Knight took silver and Elma van der Walt took two bronze. The other team members – De Wet Saaiman, Christiaan Saaiman, Elmané van der Walt, Wayne Murray and Alexander Knight – fell out in the final rounds, just missing the medal positions, but certainly left a mark on the international circuit.
Sensei Fanie du Plessis, who trains these karateka, claimed the gold medal, winning the title of World Funakoshi Champion after beating karate champions from places as widely spread as Kazakhstan, the USA, India, the Ukraine, England and Portugal, to name just a few.

Next year, the tournament will be in Portugal and TKC hopes to send at least the same calibre of team to the World Championships once again.
