Norie equestrian awarded as top rider in Gauteng West

This is an outstanding achievement as the points are calculated for each rider.

Kyla van Zyl, a Grade 10 learner from Hoërskool Noordheuwel, was ranked as the top High School rider in Gauteng West at the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) Gauteng West Awards.

The awards were held on 22 June at Usambara, where Kyla was also awarded the Victor Ludorum as the top performing rider in the district. Kyla competed on her horse, Marghoob, in nine different disciplines throughout the year, with numerous wins and placings under her belt.

This is an outstanding achievement as the points are calculated for each rider, and riders with more than one horse have the opportunity to get more points than riders with only one horse. What makes this achievement even more special is that this was Kyla’s first year of competing at Sanesa on this horse.

On top of this, she also received a gold medal for Equitation, Working Hunter and Handy Hunter, as well as a silver medal for Performance Riding and a bronze medal for In-Hand Utility.

Kyla, who trains at Glover Paddocks Equestrian Park, is the sixth consecutive Glover Paddocks rider to achieve this prestigious award. She will go on to compete at the Sanesa Gauteng Inter-Regional competition at Kyalami Equestrian Park in August. Should she be successful at that event, she will go on to represent Gauteng at the Sanesa National Competition in October.

“Kyla has performed outstandingly this year and all her hard work has paid off! We are so proud of how far she has come in her first year of competing on Marghoob. We expect to see great things in the future from this pair!” said Kerryn Maher, owner of Glover Paddocks, commenting on Kyla’s achievements.
