Less privileged sports heroes on the rise

Football Without Borders urges institutions to assist with the programme in any way possible.

Kromdraai is an informal settlement with a raw society that has the potential to breed incredible talent.

This is why the UJAB Containerised Gym Unit project was born. UJAB is the name of a boxing project that falls under Football Without Borders – a social innovation project. It aims to offer an infrastructure which is a community hub for upcoming young boxers in the community, and to be a platform for engaging them in personal development programmes.

Youngsters enjoy boxing during one of the UJAB programmes.

The UJAB team believes that sport has the power to attract and develop people, and connect them in order to foster capacity learning and personal development for young people in informal settlements.

UJAB provides the equipment needed to develop the sport among the youth of this informal settlement. And with the help of the community, the project could flourish.

Some other benefits of the project includes treats such as ice cream days.

However, the programmes need sponsors or stakeholders, so the team is inviting companies to join them in their efforts to develop the children’s potential.

Football Without Borders urges institutions to assist with the programme. The organisation is registered as a public benefit organisation with Sars, which means that any organisation that partners with it and assists in terms of material and/ or financial donations will qualify for tax incentives.
