Local crime fighter bags more cycling medals

She was part of the Gauteng Police Road Cycling team which competed against all other provinces in the country.

Captain Paula Terblanche of the Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) recently participated in the South African Police Service’s National Road Cycling Championships which were held in Mpumalanga.

The championship took place at the Loskop Dam Forever Resort and all cyclists agreed that the routes were very difficult. Luckily Paula prepared herself and did most of her training in the Cradle of Humankind. The elevation on the championships was similar to that of the training routes in the Cradle. Most routes consists of steep hills.

She returned home with a handful of prizes. She received five bronze medals and was overall third in the ladies category. She was also chosen to be part of the police’s National Road Cycling Team.

The Gauteng team was also second overall and brought back home the Spirit Trophy for the third consecutive year.

Paula also participated in the Rundela Run in Johannesburg on 15 July, the Trapnet Cycle Challenge in Pretoria on 22 July, and will also participate in the Standard Bank 5150 Iron Man series on 4 August.
