West Rand Lions League – a roaring success

After finishing their internal league, the West Rand Lions franchise – as part of the Pro Series Indoor (PSI) hockey – is now ready to claw it’s way to the top.

PSI is an indoor hockey concept that consists of leagues, regional, all stars and national tournaments. According to the franchise’s General Manager, Charles Stirling, this club is relatively new, since it only started last year on Key West Shopping Centre’s top parking floor.

He went on to say the club currently consist of 28 teams with an average of 10 players per team. The teams range from U/9s to U/18s and are made up of schools, clubs and individuals.

“With some of the best coaches, we aim to uplift indoor hockey on the West Rand. We are also looking forward to choosing players who will represent the West Rand Lions for the first time ever in next year’s National League,” Charles said.

They will then compete against other franchises, including the Durban Panthers, Mmpumalanga Mambas, Drakensburg Impis, Northern Nights and Zimbabwe Flames, among many others.

The West Rand Lions would also like to start additional school and senior leagues and to host hockey clinics for all teams involved.

“We are extremely proud of the West Rand Lions. We know that they will best represent the area they come from in future and keep the West Rand’s name high.” Charles concluded.

U/9 Mixed League:

• Third place: Unicorns

• Second place: West Rand Lions Black

• First place: West Rand Lions Red

U/11 Boys’ League:

• Second place: Fast Trackers

• First place: Fast Trackers

U/11 Girls’ League:

• Third place: West Rand Lions Black

• Second place: Emojis

• First place: Hattrick Heroes

U/13–16 Boys’ League:

• Third place: Norie Nomads

• Second place: Eagles

• First place: Crossbar Cronies

U/13–16 Girls’ League:

• Third place: Diamond Divas

• Second place: Unstoppables

• First place: Quick Sticks
