Local bodybuilders do it again at international competition
Local fitness athletes Jacqueline and Izak Groenewald walked away with not only a title or two but also a pro-card.
Jacqueline Groenewald, owner of Supreme Being Fitness and international bodybuilder and fitness athlete, and her husband Izak travelled to Taranto, Italy in October to take part in the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (IBFF) Mr and Miss Universe competition.
Usually an athlete would compete during the year and qualify for the South African team. Based on their condition they would then be chosen to compete internationally. But Jacqueline did not have to qualify this year. She placed third last year and automatically qualified for the IBFF Miss Universe 2018.

And that is just what she did! This year Jacqueline placed third in the Miss Figure category and second in the Miss Fitness category, the latter being a line-up in which the judges felt she would be more suitable, and it paid off.
After the competition the judges phoned Jacqueline and told her that although she did not place first, they felt that her condition was on standard and they were awarding her her pro-card. This means that she can now compete at a pro level and get invited to international pro competitions.
Izak competed in the Mr Physique Masters over 40 competition and placed fifth.

According to her, the way they run their show and their standards are quite different from South Africa as well.
The two of them are very dedicated and exercise at least six days a week. When they get closer to a show they put in more hours in the gym and also adjust their diet to fit to the outcome they want to achieve.
What is next, you may ask. The athletes are already starting preparations for Slovenia next year where Izak will be competing in the Masters over 60 body building and Jacqueline will be taking part in her first pro line-up.
