TKC dojo students become world champs

Students from the TCK karate club are already preparing for the 2019 and 2020 Martial Arts World Championships.

Six students from the TKC Karate dojo formed part of a group of 30 people who recently travelled to the World Martial Arts Organisation’s World Championships in Albufeira, Portugal.

The members, all from Krugersdorp, were awarded with their President’s Colours (touring colours) while Marcel Hugli and De Wet Saaiman received their Protea colours earlier this year and subsequently attended the World Championships in October.

Students of all age groups competed against countries like America, Canada, Ireland, England, Wales and Portugal.

Between the six students who competed, they won three gold medals, five silver medals and eight bronze medals.

The team has already qualified for next year’s World Champs in Greece and will jet off to Canada in 2020.

Sensei Marcel Hugli has owned the TKC dojo for the past 20 years, and has been training for the past 40.

He said that anyone who wants to join is welcome to phone him on 082 724 5670.
