Basketball thrives on home soil

The association, which was founded in 2017, welcomed teams from all over the West Rand.

The West Rand Basketball Association hosted the League Finals for junior (U/16) and senior (open) teams from the Krugersdorp area and surroundings.

The association, which was founded in 2017, welcomed the Blue Jays from Kagiso, Eagle Magic from Munsieville, the Flames from Mohlakeng, Ring Force from Westonaria, the Knights from Cosmo City, Patriot from Carletonville, the Outlaws from Portjie and Score Webb from the Vaal.

A very competitive and captivating event resulted in Ring Force and the Mohlakeng Flames fighting it out to take home the win. At the end of the day, it was none other than the Flames who triumphed over the rest, when they finished with a score of 50–39 against Ring Force.

According to the association’s vice-president, Rodney Mushwana, the finals really met the teams’ expectations and they are looking forward to the next season.

Their main focus is development, which is why they are targeting primary school learners in an effort to teach the sport and expand the league.

The association would like to thank their guests, Ofentse Lebethe, Zanele Tumane (Sports and Recreation), Andile Hlope (Johannesburg Basketball Association) and Tiro (Soweto Basketball Association) who attended the event on the day.

Rodney and his team encourage all sport enthusiasts to join the association. If you would like to find out more, feel free to visit their Facebook page, West Rand Basketball.
