Joseph ‘Duku Duku’ Makhanya’s soccer tournament unleashes hidden talents
Duku Duku said the tournament was one way of giving back to the community.
The Joseph ‘Duku Duku’ Makhanya soccer tournament united the community of Kagiso and brought with it a great festive spirit. The soccer tournament is in its 12th year and saw the under 9s, 11s, 13s, 15s and 17s sweating it out at the Kagiso Sports Complex, while the seniors and masters played at the Juventus Sports grounds in Kagiso Extension 12.
The junior finals were played at the same venue on 17 December while the seniors and masters played on the last day of the tournament, 31 December, at Juventus. The winners received prize money, trophies, medals and soccer kits.
The former Orlando Pirates and the defunct Moroka Swallows midfield maestro, Joseph ‘Duku Duku’ Makhanya, said the tournament was one way of giving back to the community and unearthing talent among young players as well as encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
The tournament was held in partnership with Mogale City Local Municipality and Sepotokele Funeral Home as the title sponsor. Other local businesses also pledged their support throughout the tournament.
