First round of competition on the lawns

Opening of the annual district competition of the 2018-2019 Sables Bowling Association

The first two rounds of the Sables 5s competition took place at the Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) in February.

This marked the start of the Sables Bowling Association’s annual District competition.

Four teams competed in the first round at 8.30am, while the second round started at 1pm.

In the first round of the competition, KBC managed to accumulate 10 points, followed by the winning team in the 2018 competition, Discovery Bowling Club, with eight points. Noordheuwel Bowling Club accumulated two points and Rust-Imp Bowling Club was yet to score.

In the second round, Noordheuwel Bowling Club took a stand and produced 10 points, the highest in the second round, while Rust-Imp BC garnered six points. Discovery Bowling also accumulated six points, but KBC did not manage to produce any points in the second round.

The third round will take place on Sunday, 24 February.

The finals, in the form of a knock-out match, will be played on 3 March.

The vice-president of Krugersdorp Bowling Club, Dylan Leader, said, “Bowling is a very welcoming sport; it does not discriminate in terms of age or gender, it’s not a physically taxing sport and men and women can play against each other”.
