Local gymnast heading to Hungary

To make his dream of going to the 2020 Olympics a reality, Ruan will have to collect a massive R22 950. But, he will do anything to make this dream come true.

Local world class gymnast, Ruan Lange, is currently a member of the national team and a high performance gymnast training at Visions Gymnastics Club.

Right now he’s training every day, chasing his dream of qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games. Recently, Ruan was chosen as the only male artistic gymnast to attend the Junior World Championships which is set to take place from 23 June to 1 July in Gyor, Hungary.

The tournament is a great honour and a once in a lifetime kind of opportunity, but the trip is very expensive. The Championship is the very first of its kind, and is set to send any exceptional gymnast into the big leagues.

To make his dream a reality, Ruan will have to collect the necessary funds to get him there, and put him in the running for that gold medal.

Airfare will cost as much as R12 500, with accommodation and meals racking up another R7 400. His visa, competition kit and entry fee is an additional R4 050. Unfortunately, the World Championships is not a macro-body funded event, and the South African Gymnastics Federation is also not in a position to contribute to Ruan’s expense at this point.

Therefore, this trip has to be self-funded by Ruan and his family. They are currently reaching out, hoping that the community will help get him there so he can make us all proud.
