Local paddlers have podium finishes
Caroline and Kobus Filmalter continued their success by achieving podium positions.
The South African Canoe Marathon Championships took place at the Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Reserve in Muldersdrift over the long weekend in June. A few paddlers from Krugersdorp enjoyed the prestigious inter-provincial event.
Juniors from Curro School in Krugersdorp – the U/12 Keegan Marais and his older brother, the U/14 Matthew Marais – enjoyed the opportunity to race against the finest in the country.
Although they are very new to paddling and have only finished a few races in the Gauteng Canoe Union School League since January, it was a wonderful opportunity for them to take part in the inter-provincial championships, which are not often held in Gauteng as it is held in a different province every year.
Caroline and Kobus Filmalter continued their success by achieving podium positions, with Caroline finishing second in the Veteran Woman’s K1 event, and first in the Veteran Women’s K2 event. They won their age category in the Mixed Doubles race (male/ female combination).
