AKCZ proud of its students

Sensei Bhekumuzi Khumbula from the African Karate Combat Zone (AKCZ) has reason to be proud of four of his students.

Sensei Bhekumuzi Khumbula from the African Karate Combat Zone (AKCZ) has reason to be proud of four of his students.

The four students recently competed at the All Style Karate Tournament in Primrose, where three of them won their fights and were voted the best performers in their categories.

Mogale Tompo Matlhoko, who has been with the AKCZ club for more than 10 years, was victorious over his opponent, Kaylin Naidoo from KwaZulu-Natal.

Hopewell Shbalala, who has been part of the AKCZ club since its establishment, won against Sinande Vilakazi from Soweto.

Unfortunately Martin Dube lost to his opponent, Bayanda Khumalo from Soweto. Martin has been training at AKCZ for two years.

Zaid Neuvell from KwaZulu-Natal lost to Thato Maoba, who has been with the AKCZ club for two years.

Bhekumuzi said that before the tournament he focused on technique and physical training with his students, and that is why he believed they were victorious.

He opened the Dojo in 1998 because he wanted to help equip kids physically and mentally, and make them aware that their bodies could be their best weapons.

In 1990 Bhekumuzi was a professional fighter and even fought at the Sandton Square venue.

He believes that a good fighter needs to be mentally fit, and advises other fighters that when they get into the ring they must use their speed, power and time, and then they will win the fight.

He invites the community, especially women who want to train and learn some self-defence, to join his Dojo. He can be contacted on 065 830 6285.
