Golf day fundraiser for cerebral palsy helps many
The Dempsey Foundation was founded to help families with children suffering from cerebral palsy.
Cerebral palsy is a common group of neurological motor and movement disabilities often developed during childhood. Except for the immense physical strain cerebral palsy places on those affected by it, there is also a heavy financial burden on the families.
For this reason, the Dempsey Foundation came into being. Its founders, Johan and Claudette van Schoor felt a need to help others in a similar situation after finding out that their son, Dempsey van Schoor was afflicted by this disability.
To help them raise the massive amount of funds needed to help as many people as possible, the organisation hosts regular fundraisers.
On 25 November they hosted a golf day and gala dinner at the Krugersdorp Golf Club for this very reason.
Just over 130 people and businesses participated, donating sums of money for the cause. One business, Capital Legacy Solutions handed over a cheque of R35 100. The company raised the money through a month-long campaign which entailed that the Dempsey Foundation would receive R25 for every will the company collected. More than 1 400 wills were collected in that time.
Capital Legacy CEO, Alex Simeonides noted, “We would encourage other local businesses to support charities by thinking of new and innovative fundraising models”.
Johan thanked everyone involved and said, “The funds raised here today will help make the lives of children with cerebral palsy easier, along with that of their families, by assisting with resources, education and support.”
