After developing knee problems, Charne Westerveld needed something else to do in her free time and found a growing interest in lawn bowls.

Her grandmother had played it for years and the mother of one of her fellow cyclists’ was playing regularly at the time. So, she took up the sport and has been enjoying it for the past two years.
Currently, she’s a member of the Krugersdorp Bowling Club and regularly plays against clubs from all over the West Rand.
Recently, she participated in the Discovery Novice Tournament which was held over three weekends at the Discovery Bowling Club in Roodepoort. All novice players from the different clubs within the Sables District participated in the tournament. In the end, Charne walked away with the first place trophy.
She attributed her win to the exceptional support she received from her fellow club members and added, “I just love bowls! Every single moment I get I am on the green. I live for weekends, to play.”
