Trail Run and dusted: Krugersdorp’s Reatlegile wins Short Route (+-12km)

Reatlegile Moswen (Krugersdorp) and Rone Reynecke (Rustenburg) took no prisoners in the Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run Short Route (+-12km) with finishing times of 50 minutes and 4 seconds and 57 minutes and 33 seconds respectively.

Collin Kanyimo (Pretoria East) and Nicolette Griffioen (Lanseria) were in peak form on Sunday June 5 at the iconic Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run, claiming gold in the Long Route (+-24km) in fantastic times of 1 hour, 27 minutes and 18 seconds, and 1 hour, 56 minutes and 31 seconds respectively.

“The Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run was nice, I really enjoyed it,” said Collin.

“It was tough, especially when we went through the water crossings. It was cold, but after we did some climbing, I was warm again and then I started pushing the pace. This was the second year that I took part. I entered for the first time last year, and I will return every year. I enjoyed the flat sections and the downhills the most. It was fast on these sections. I ended up running 3:10, 3:05, and even under three minutes a kilometre. For me winning is just a bonus. I wasn’t expecting it, but I am happy. Last year I finished third, so it means that I am improving. I brought three friends with me today, so next year maybe I’ll bring ten.”

Zithulele Nozinkowe came in second, while Gerald Bambilo finished third.

According to Nicolette the start of the race was fast.

“The race was nice; I enjoyed it and just ran within myself. As it got warmer, and we got into more climbs there was a breeze which was helpful. I enjoyed running past the dam. I used to do the XTERRA races here, so I know the course quite well. It was great to be back. I must say the climbs were tough. I enjoy climbing, but my legs were feeling it today. The run down to the finish was fast. The Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run is an old classic for me in this area. I love the Magaliesberg. It’s not too far from home and it’s always worth coming out to see it again. It’s great to win. It’s nice to prove to myself that I still have a bit of speed in my legs.”
