Mogale dart players hit their target

Mogale Darts Association continue to hit new targets.

Darts is among the most popular sports in the world with over 50 million players worldwide according to the World Darts Federation, the largest sport governing body in the sport.

Many may view this sport as a recreational game that you play in a pub, however, for the Mogale Darts Association it’s more.

Members of the club come to train each Thursday at the Fat Cats Pub and Grill and it is a place where top players are always on point and very precise. According to club member Ronel Hayman, the club has boasted several top athletes who have gone on to achieve big honours.

Eleven players from the Mogale Darts Association were recently selected to form part of the South African team after impressing in their league games. The scoring ensured that they could be selected for the Gauteng and South African teams. They would then take part in the SA Championships at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena.

They currently have four Protea players namely Mitch Minnie, Tanya Stols, Ronel Hayman, and Anton Jacobs.

In the recent nationals, the members’ performances were as follows:

• Youth division – Anton Jacobs (second boys pairs), (second mixed pairs) and winner of the overall Youth Cup
• Provincial masters division for men – Nel Hayman (second)
• Provincial masters division for women – Ramona van Zyl (second)
• Gauteng Provincial Women’s team – Tanya Stols (second), Micaela Slabber (second), Ronel Hayman (second)
• West Rand District Division Team – Marius Nel, Salmon Pretorius, Lenton Fourie, Jan Jansen, Keanu Bezuidenhout (second)
• SA Ladies singles champion – Tanya Stols (first)
