Dros Krugersdorp had its annual golf day on May 2, with all proceeds going to the West Rand Heart and Organ Transplant Foundation.
This annual event, held at the Krugersdorp Golf Club for the 20th time, was filled with excitement. There were 176 players involved, and there were also prizes to win. One of the challenges was a hole-in-one shot that could see a player win R150 000 if they hit it.
“This is one of the biggest golf days of the year at the club,” said John Bele, a caddy at the club.
Golfer Riaan Joubert said that his team enjoyed the day so much, that they did not even keep a proper score, and rather embraced the opportunity to have fun.
“All the proceeds that the foundation receives go directly to the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital, to aid with life-saving heart transplant surgeries,” said Joey Warby, organiser of the day.
He added that it is better to give, rather than to receive, and encourages the community to do the same.
Another golfer Cecil Maartens said that he enjoyed the day, and wished that there were more golf days to support the foundation, due to the importance of it.
