Krugersdorp Town School youngster shines at district athletics event

Sandile Mayisela is ecstatic as he is the only athlete to win a medal for his school at the recent D2 Athletics Championship.

Krugersdorp will not run out of sporting talent, as many boys and girls from various schools continue to showcase their relentless talent and skills on the big stage.

The Gauteng West D2 Championships were recently held at Ruimsig Stadium. Among the many talented athletes was Krugersdorp Town School’s Sandile Mayisela who was the school’s first medalist in almost eight years. According to his coach Brandon Adams, he was also the only medalist from the school.

Sandile is a Grade Five learner who proved himself to be among the best after he finished first in the long jump and third in the 70m hurdles race.

Sandile is a natural talent. He is very great to work with, very hardworking and embodies what makes a great sportsman,” Brandon said.

In addition to being a brilliant athlete, he also plays other sports such as football with his main position being a defender. Winning a medal at the Gauteng West Championships means that Sandile qualifies to compete at the Gauteng Provincial Championships that will be held on March 15 at Germiston Stadium.

From there he aims to fly the Krugersdorp flag high as he will travel with the best athletes in town with the hopes of standing out with the best and show of his skills.
