Brad battles setback, finishes strong in Austria

After a strong start, Brad Binder was pushed off track, damaging his KTM. He recovered to claim seventh – his third consecutive Top 8 finish in MotoGP this year.

Krugersdorp’s MotoGP star Brad Binder started in 11th position at the BWIN Grand Prix of Austria this past weekend and finished seventh.

According to the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, Brad was in the top five but was pushed off the track, which damaged his bike.

“He did, however, get back on track, which equalled his second-best result of the year and marked his third top-eight finish in a row,” the team said.

Brad mentioned the race could have gone better.

“I didn’t get a good start, but made some moves and was up to fifth. I was then sent into the fans by another rider!” he added.

He continued, saying he lost a few seconds and one of his spoilers.

“It was tough from then on because it was hard here for the wheelie without the aero, and the bike was wobbling more. It was a long race! I felt like I put up a good fight and did all I could. We got seventh, but the potential was there for more.”

Brad is currently 11th in the championship standings and will race again at the Michelin Grand Prix of Hungary this weekend (August 22 to 24).
