Young bowlers shine at Sables Youth Singles Tournament
Future stars of bowls proved their potential in a high-quality showcase of youth talent.
Hopeful bowlers competed for top honours at Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) during the recent Sables Youth Singles Tournament.
According to KBC spokesperson David Parker, the tournament featured three age divisions: U15, U18 and U25.
“It was very pleasing to watch these young players compete. The standard of play was excellent, and it was just as rewarding to witness the strong sportsmanship displayed throughout,” he said.

In the U15 division, KBC member Daniel Pitte faced Tomé Potgieter in the final. David explained that both players made their coaches proud by delivering an impressive standard of bowls for their age. Daniel went on to win the gold medal, with Tomé earning silver.
David added that the U18 players also impressed the spectators with their high-quality shots.
“Dylan Diedericks of Witpoortjie managed to beat KBC’s Lerato Mpetsi in a match played at a very high standard,” he said.

The U25 section produced exceptional bowls, with players demonstrating strategic and well-planned gameplay. Devin de Jongh had to maintain strong control throughout her matches to reach the final, where she faced fellow KBC player Dewald Vermeulen. The match was briefly halted by weather conditions, and upon resuming, both players had to draw on experience to maintain their performance levels.
“Devin eventually edged out Dewald to win the gold medal, with silver going to Dewald,” David said.
Both Sables president Brian Oxley and KBC president Andy Selby expressed pride in the outstanding performance of their players.
“These achievements are the cherry on top of a remarkable 2024/2025 season for KBC,” David concluded.
