From KHS to the World Cup: Jay-Dee leads the way
KHS' head boy has the honour of captaining South Africa as the country targets gold at the inaugural U18 Hockey5s World Cup in Egypt.
Krugersdorp High School (KHS) head boy Jay-Dee Carolus was selected for the U18 South African Hockey5s team in July during the South African Hockey Interprovincial Tournament.
He will play alongside other talented young players selected from across the country. On August 4, Carolus and his teammates travelled to Kenya for the Hockey5s World Cup qualifiers. He opened the team’s campaign by scoring the first goal against Kenya.
Following the qualifiers, the U18 team secured qualification for the inaugural U18 Hockey5s World Cup, which will take place from December 10 to 13 in Ismailia, Egypt and is hosted by the International Hockey Federation. The tournament will feature top U18 men’s and women’s youth teams from around the world.
According to the federation’s website, 24 teams will compete in the inaugural World Cup, comprising 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams.
Carolus will not only represent South Africa at the tournament but will also captain the team as they aim to bring home the gold.
