Millies U11 girls excel at Monnas hockey league playoffs
Coaches praise the players for their determination and teamwork after a thrilling semi-final shootout led them to the final.
Laerskool Millennium Primary School’s U11 girls’ hockey team secured second place in the hockey league playoffs at Hoërskool Monument High School last month.
Coaches Leani Marx and Kayla Bothma said the team displayed determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
A highlight was the semi-final against their opponents, which ended in a 1–1 draw. The match went to an eight-second shoot-out, where Millennium triumphed 3–1 to secure a place in the final against Modderfontein.
Although the team finished as runners-up, the coaches said they were extremely proud of the girls’ achievement and perseverance.
The team worked hard throughout the season to prepare for the playoffs, including practising on an AstroTurf surface at KHS to gain valuable experience.
The coaches said the girls remained calm under pressure during the semi-final shoot-out and demonstrated that success extends beyond the final score.
They praised the players for their commitment, determination and support for one another, adding that reaching the final and finishing second was an achievement worth celebrating.
