Do you agree that the thought of meeting all a baby’s needs could be very intimidating?

One can imagine how scary it must be to go through an unplanned pregnancy and then leave your newborn in the hands of strangers because you cannot care for it.

DA Gauteng Health spokesperson Jack Bloom released a statement confirming that in the last three years, 40 babies had been abandoned at state hospitals in Krugersdorp.

Forty might not sound like many, but for the whole of Gauteng the number of abandonments is 360.

What happens to these children? What are their prospects, or are they just numbers within the system?

Where does our responsibility as community members start?
