Water with E.Coli? Why are we so nonchalant about it?

I was very alarmed to read that our streams in Krugersdorp and its urban areas are possibly infected with E.Coli.

But when I thought about it, I realised that it makes total sense.

Our streams are being infected by people who do not otherwise have access to water.

These people use the water from these streams as drinking water, water to do their laundry with and sometimes they also defecate in these streams.

The only reason people will do this, instead of finding another plausible water source, is because they are not educated on the risks of their behaviour, which is very sad.

Their choices to do the things they do in these streams have damaging effects which later become irreparable.

Plant and wild animal life may be completely destroyed and once this infected water finds itself to our drinking water, an epidemic can arise.

This is very concerning.

The authorities have already stepped in, but it seems like the writing is on the wall.

How do we make this better? Becoming water wise is the first logical step in making sure we know how precious this commodity really is.

There will be a time, possibly in the very near future, where our water will only come these streams and rivers we pollute every day.

I am very worried Krugersdorp, and so should you.

Something to think about … until next week.
